Welcome to Tiny Garden Harvest, a practical resource for growing food in small spaces. Whether you have a balcony, a patio, a handful of pots or a windowsill, this is the place to begin.

  1. Work out your light

Count the hours of direct sun your space gets on a summer day. Six or more suits tomatoes, peppers and strawberries. Less than that? Salad leaves, mint, parsley and fruit bushes like gooseberries are happier.

  2. Start small

Two or three crops grown well beat ten grown badly. Lettuce, radishes and a pot of herbs are the easiest wins.

  3. Get the container right

Most problems in pots come from containers that are too small and dry out. Check yours with the free calculator before you sow.

  4. Sow at the right time

The monthly sowing guides tell you what to start now, so you're not fighting the season.
